I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique cultural commentary ...

Having read the Croatian version of this book, I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique cultural commentary and a good laugh. As a Croatian-American woman married to a very un-ethnic American man, I feel more than qualified to proclaim that Cody's observations are spot-on. He comments on many aspects of Croatian culture - coffee, drafts through windows, gift-giving, friendships- that we Croatians accept as normal but others may find intriguing or sometimes even...weird. My husband has often wondered why my mom offers him slippers when we go visit, and why she puts more food on his plate than anyone else's (including her own children).
This book should be mandatory reading for any inter-ethnic couple, as its humorous anectodes and observations would apply to anyone in a relationship with an "foreigner" - not just Croatian. Order it and be prepared to spit out your espresso as you read and laugh out loud!

What to know more about Croatia, read this book!

I love this book. When I bought it, I knew what to expect since I follow the author's blog, but even then I simply adore this book.

'Chasing a Croatian girl' shows Croatian habits and customs, but in a funny way never demeaning them. As a Croatian all of those customs makes perfect sense, but it was nice to see the other side of it.

Funny and Endearing Look at Cultural Differnces

It is clear that Cody Brown has spent considerable time in Croatia. He is right on target when he talks about the differences in culture between Croatia and America. I laughed out loud when reading many of his thoughts regarding the many differences: drinking coffee, overbearing mother-in-laws, drafts from open windows, partying and neighbors. He went off track, however, in chapter 24 "Wild West vs Mild West" and gun violence in America. In all the previous chapters Brown emphasized the closeness of families, the genuineness of the people, the love of children, the positive attitudes toward real friendships and the tolerance of others. He even admits that other countries like Serbia has a similar number of guns per capita and then somehow explains that gun violence in America is due to the proliferation of guns and gun ownership. If he would only read his earlier chapters regarding the Croatian commitment to family, friendships and their respect for human life and compare those aspects with American culture he might just stumble on the real answers to his own question: Why is there more violence in America and why is Croatia a safer place to live? Those many differences that he found both funny and endearing in Croatian culture are the very reasons why it is safer to walk down the streets of any major Croatian city than one in America.

With that one exception, I would strongly recommend the book to anyone who wants to get a fresh view of not only the Croatian culture, but a fresh look at their own non-Croat culture. It is clear that Cody Brown has developed both a love and understanding of his adopted country.

it was the first m/m/m book I ever read and its was a good over all story. Josh has issues with fallen for the wrong guys, but he had to over come his fears to be with the men that he wanted but he was struggling to be himself but have to overcome is pass to help his future. Looking forward on reading more.

So much better than reviewing with an organic chemistry textbook...

An excellent, clear, and concise review of the important functional groups, with an eye towards medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. It was assigned reading for my Principles of Drug Action class, and I highly recommend it to anyone needing to brush up on some old O-Chem knowledge in preparation for a more advanced chemistry-related drugs course. The CD accompaniment is a useful aid as well, if you read closely, answer the practice problems in the text, and check your answers, as well as going through the problem sets in the CD, you'll be right as rain for any discussion of drug-receptor interactions and in vivo metabolism.

How is nihilism our new condition?

Vattimo continues to issue his argument for a soft-ontology after metaphysics has suffered from the end of absolutes. The end is nothing...nihilism. I am convinced that Vattimo and others like him are correct in accessing our age as technocratic nihilism but I am not convinced that Vattimo's soft-ontology is much more than a "practical" excuse to live as though there is meaning even though tying life to shared experience is impossible. The only real impossibility is that life is impossible. Is a new motivation for innovation and culture possible if we admit with Vattimo that nihilism "gesture[s] toward a new human experience" (26)? I am not convinced that he demonstrates this. Instead I see Vattimo arguing for a kind of soft-ontology that attempts to balance the reification of objective language with the broader givens of life experience that are coordinated in forms of life. Although I am not convinced of Vattimo's vision for life and society after nihilism I do think this book is worthy of a serious read.

This book is important to understand postmodernism. However, i don't image american readers accepting Vattimo's tesis about weak subjet right to have a place in world.
